Journalist/Copywriter/Storyteller
About Me
My name is Jessica Hey (formerly Jessica Hundley as you can see from many of my bylines). I grew up in sunny Palm Beach Gardens, a suburban beach town on the southeast coast of Florida, with my parents and three siblings. I have been writing for as long as I can remember -- mostly short stories and fiction works at the amusement of my friends.
I put that writing to work at the University of Florida where I majored in journalism and wrote for a myriad of local publications, not least of which being the Alachua County Today. At only 20 years old I spent a semester as the managing editor of this small-town local weekly, learning the ins and outs of rural Alachua county and those who inhabit it.
From there, I moved to Atlanta, where I continued writing freelance while working as director of operations for the city's largest after-school program, Bricks4Kidz. Managing the company's social media, external and internal communication, 32 teachers, 70+ schools, and thousands of parents and children is not for the faint of heart. It takes patience, strong work ethic, time management skills, creativity, leadership skills, confidence and a lot of caffeine. But I could not be more grateful to have had the opportunity.
From there I became a copywriter at Target MarkeTeam, a full-service marketing agency in Sandy Springs. Our clients consist of nonprofit organizations such as UNICEF, Smile Train, Humane Society of the United States and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles to name a few. My job is to collaborate with the account teams and art directors to create compelling material to attract and retain donors.
Bottom line: I love to write, love to learn, and love an opportunity to impress. Fast learner, team player and always good for a laugh.
